I've lately described it as just the desire to not be. Not to end but to have ended, to no longer have to. It is, like you said, and as far as I've seen functionally impossible for anyone who hasn't felt it to empathize or understand. A lot of them do care though, which is a hell of a thing.

Well you’ve obviously never played Bikesluts 2e.

Hundo p, and I’ll go further. My favorite kinds of games are not where you are asked to imagine building a bike, or where you are given bike parts and asked to build a bike, but where you are given a curated and playtested list of parts explicitly NOT from a bike and then asked to build a bike.

Great advice, thank you. Are there any developer-centric discords you would be able or willing to point me towards?

I also think there’s an argument to be made to extend this philosophy past damage into non-combat systems. Make the number you hit a tactical decision with pros and cons for it being high or low, versus leaving it to a die.

Agreed, I cant find any compelling narrative or mechanical consequences to variable damage, and I’ve tried. I’ve working on something now where the damage/impact is player declared. You call the ball and shoot.

Yeah the idea that objectivity exists at all is real freshman level shit, and the first step to media literacy is understanding that it’s all just people, and people aren’t, can’t be, shouldn’t be objective.
