It's incredible to me that so many prioritize the crime of shoplifting, rather than the crime of watching our neighbors go without and in need. Food banks have record use, and are in a crisis that is mounting. But Balducci wants to pitch a half a mill annually for 2 retail theft detectives?

He told me thought Seattle was filled with all "these felons" who just get a "fingerwagging" when they shoplift. That he was glad that QFC would be getting a new security co to work there. That they would be armed, and have pepper spray. He said they would start check reciepts, if "you look 'sus"

The next week I was in the QFC on Rainier. It was midday and quiet. The cashier was in an American flag t-shirt, and so I thought I'd ask him about whether he had seen physical altercations with guards, and if so, what his thoughts were on it. I thought we might have different opinions. We did.

6 big men, surrounding tightly. They got the persons backpack, and took out what looked like 2 pieces of onigiri, and then basically chased the person out of that side door. I wonder how much was spent for those guards, to obtain back those 2 balls of rice.

The very next day, my son and I were at Uwajimaya. We checked out from the side of the store next to Kinokuniya. The moment we turned away from the checkstand to leave, we were suddenly next to six Iron and Oak guards circling around a young person, seemingly in their 20s.

This was the PCC in the CD. I have never seen PCC guards physically engage before. I wrote to the hq press, twice, and received no response when I inquired about PCC's current policies and practices.

This July I was in a PCC where I witnessed the armed guard, young and jacked, in a physical altercation with a woman who appeared to be, 50s/60s. He was engaged in a push and pull over her backpack, he on the inside of the sliding doors, and she on the outside. This went on for what felt like 5 min
