I really feel you parents. I don’t know what’s got to give. I seriously can’t absorb another increase like this in a few months time. It’s a slow, relentless creep!

Crazy isn’t it. It’s so depressing. I really don’t know how families are managing, it’s hard enough sustaining yourself let alone having to feed growing humans.

And they wonder why my generation are thinking twice before kids. People cannot afford another mouth to feed.

To some, that’s not a lot of money. But that’s a decent weeks shop for a family, and half a weeks wage for some. That means someone potentially having to find an extra 2.5 days a week on top of a full time job just to be in the same financial position they were in just a few months ago.

A lot of very short sighted people around, sadly!

For the rest of us who want to feel that connection to a place, whether as someone who visits all the time or someone on a one off trip - let us lean into the Hanes (history), let it engulf you, and leave knowing you have truly seen that place and know it on a deeper level than when you arrived.

Without native names, in any language, we are all a lot poorer for it.

So what if it’s ’hard to remember’ or if to you, it ‘will always be the spinnies’. That’s your choice. It’s a poor one that leaves you blind to the history and sense of place, but it is your choice.
