Feeling incredibly proud of Antonio Serrano @ibmcp.bsky.social — thank you for bringing me on board! Growth arrest is a DNA damage protection strategy in Arabidopsis @jorgehg.bsky.social @dalabadi.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Growth arrest is a DNA damage protection strategy in Arabidopsis - Nature Communications
This study demonstrates that growth arrest under stress in Arabidopsis protects meristem cells from DNA damage, challenging the idea that it is merely due to energy trade-offs and highlighting its rol...

🚨 Preprint alert!!
Thrilled to share our new story where we report the discovery of a new sporophytic maternal-effect mutant in Arabidopsis. 🧵

Maternal control of RNA decay safeguards embryo development
As in mammals, the plant embryo is surrounded by maternal tissues that provide protection from the external environment. In angiosperms, a double fertilization process results in the formation of a di...

63 studies: women who assert their ideas, make direct requests, and advocate for themselves are liked less.

They're also less likely to get hired—and it hasn't improved over time.

When will we stop punishing women for violating outdated gender stereotypes?

Does the smell and flavor of strawberries depend on variations in gene-associated transposons? It seems so! Check out our new preprint! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Naturally occurring variation in gene-associated transposable elements impacts gene expression and phenotypic diversity in woodland strawberry
Transposable elements (TEs) constitute a major portion of plant genomes and play key roles in shaping genome architecture, regulating gene expression, and driving genome evolution. In this study, we g...

Diversity in research is resilient and so powerful!
Very much like biodiversity in nature.
Monoculture at universities and research institutions will not be able to compete with others that promote intellectual diversity that can "think out of the box" allowing breakthrough discoveries.

1/ Transposable elements are often called "jumping genes" because they mobilize within genomes. 🧬
But did you know they can also jump 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 cells? 🤯
Our new study reveals how retrotransposons invade the germline directly from somatic cells.
