When combined with how much of the Canadian budget's focus on de-risking and even a dedicated fund designed to support 'emerging fund managers', we can see just how much of the imaginary of our state (led by an ex-CB governor) is captured by the financial sector

Canadians are being asked to make sacrifices for a budget that meets the moment. Apparently that means cutbacks to services to fund $1 billion to "support new and emerging fund managers" and to incentivize pension funds into investing in venture capital. Austerity for thee, largesse for finance.

Of course I know the BoC is charged with financial stability and structurally dependent on private finance to achieve their mandate. At the same time, the imagined limits of possibility are constrained by technocratic thinking with distributional consequences.
