But that's the thing. These big-ass corpos (Google, Amazon, whatever) have the money and the talent to actually really deliver on features and quality... and don't. They just don't have the corporate attention span to make serious projects out of their wheelhouse, or to innovate.

Or how about Stardock's Impulse (2008) which only managed three years before being sold to GameStop, which then... well, by 2014, again, your purchases were gone, and you couldn't play the games you bought anymore.

Some of you kids don't remember Desura (2009), another Steam wannabe. It passed through a couple of hands before... well in less than six years, your purchases were gone, and you couldn't play the games you bought anymore.

All that the ones next door to us seemed to accomplish was repeatedly knocking holes in the shared fence. Perhaps an artifact of the sort of person who would drive them around at 1:30am.
