Altidore squares it, Dempsey's missed it, Donovan has it!

I believe cities were chosen by US Soccer but FIFA likes to play loose with tournament rules so I wouldn't put it past them putting their fingers on the scale

Why are Inter Miami playing in the Club World Cup?
Fifa held back a ‘host nation’ spot which was awarded to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami out of the blue

But for now, I’d rather save my money and go see the US women play some marquee matchups in Brazil in (their winter) 2027 than drive 7 hours to watch a sub optimal, expensive, oppressively hot game midday in Kansas City. 9/9

So, high ticket prices, oppressively hot weather cities, early kickoff times, and a diluted product all contribute to empty stadiums. I hopeFIFA will realize this, lower prices, and work with youth clubs to get people to games. There’s nothing to do about the weather and geography at this point.8/9

As an aside, the Midwest, and Chicago in particular, really got screwed on these tournaments. Despite having some of the best summer weather in the country, cities like Chicago were skipped over for all three tournaments in favor of some of the hottest, like Austin, DC, Orlando, and Miami. 7/9

Expanding these tournaments has led to some dreadful matchups (at least on paper). We could very well be heading for a Panama-Curacao quarterfinal in the gold cup and I simply don’t need to drive four hours to St Paul and spend $260 for a game I have nothing invested in. 6/9

Even if I lived in Miami, and even if the tickets were free, I probably would take my kids to the movies on a July afternoon instead of suffering through Uzbekistan-Comoros (an entirely possible matchup in 2026) in the heat. Which brings me to diluted product. 5/9

Next issue is weather and geography. It is unbearably hot in the US South in the summer. And given time differences with Europe and Asia, many games will be played midday in the club world cup and world cup tournaments. 4/9

For comparison, I attended US games at the Women’s World Cups in France and New Zealand for $10-30 a ticket. Front row for the US-England semi-final in Lyon in 2019 cost €60. 10th row for US-Netherlands in Wellington in 2023 cost about $40. 3/9

First issue is cost. Terrible seats for the club would cup opener were going for over $300 until they lowered the price recently. Tickets for the gold cup quarterfinal, the closest game to me at any of three tournaments, are starting at $67, which is still ridiculously high. 2/9

I also may or may not have a secret stash of Cadbury creme eggs I keep for emergencies...

I admittedly just figured they were bots, trying to grift likes off a popular post by saying something/anything contrarian.

I don't think I'm ready for that!

Actually, our daughter designed this one, I just manufactured it!

I did some sleuthing and the setlist wheel was a year earlier!
The show Jason and I went to was actually the release of Lost and Gone Forever. It was awesome getting to hear so many new songs first, and yet you still played my favorite track off of parachute (window).

Wow, this thread of two college dorm-mates reconnecting after 20 years just leveled up!

Siegel, you need no further explanation! I think I still have the guster shirt from when we saw them at lupos!

Remember the time we went to state college and were flying home on a Saturday because the Sunday flights were too expensive? And United oversold the Saturday flight so we volunteered to go Sunday, got a free hotel and $300 in credit to take the flight we wanted to take originally!
