From this FHWA Crosswalk Marking Selection Guide, it sounds like the benefit of continental markings over the diagonal markings is maintenance related. The guide also notes that the diagonal version is not included in the updated MUTCD.

From this FHWA Crosswalk Marking Selection Guide, it sounds like the benefit of continental markings over the diagonal markings is maintenance related. The guide also notes that the diagonal version is not included in the updated MUTCD.
