Sorry, this is a bit of a tangent but I just looked at the Columbia class timeline and TEN YEARS???? I knew naval procurement was fucked but ten years to build a boomer???

I think that even if the US goal was to maintain the current credible deterrent, they’d still need to invest quite a bit just to keep the warheads from decaying (and to keep the delivery systems from becoming obsolete)
