I write things and make pictures. Reformed 20th c. theorist splicing the 21st. Comp. Lit. / film history / translation. Pre-mill post-punk.
Good call, to which I’d add most of Miyazaki’s incredible oeuvre.

I’m thankful for a film like Tati’s Playtime, which he nearly destroyed himself to create. Something that expands the bounds of what is possible in the medium. There are maybe a few others in this realm, but we’d be the poorer without it.

I’m not a South Park viewer, but I’m curious what they’ll do to her face now.

I have taught English to DB employees. I do not recall any lines from Hogan’s Heroes.

Graham Greene's _The Third Man_ is the obvious reference here, upon which the Carol Reed / Orson Welles film is based.

Good. Those are the figures whom I feel have the political imagination and the vigilance to advance a proactive agenda.

The mere existence of this document is vital. No matter the outcome, the EU plan advances an alternative, fact-based, protective narrative to counter the wild, wish list proposal. Thus far, the latter has sucked all of the oxygen from the public.

I suspect Ukrainian intelligence knew what was happening before the regime had a clue what went down, or how to handle it appropriately.

Yes, that’s become quite evident. She’s diligent and effective. AOC does the homework, and called out MTG for not doing it.

An apt analogy. And this administration will still clamor for a good grade as a PR stunt.

This was a good analysis of how the negotiation went down (US negotiator totally played). It baffles me now how they are actually all trying to run with it despite these glaring coercions. macspaunday.substack.com/p/he-got-thi...

I’d trust this analysis below more than the ex-GOP Bulwark. But yes, they would only care if smarter people applied pressure. Or they are too stupid and venal to care. macspaunday.substack.com/p/he-got-thi...

Yes, she has. In this case, playing to the winds has served her well.

Oh, I love it too. But I’ve always found the second a bit grating sonically. Even their third album — which I also love, the ‘90s reunion — suffers slightly from a bit of digital sheen. But that recording is more fleshed out across the bandwidth and captures their muscularity much better.

Television’s entire _Adventure_ LP, and my particular favorite on it, “Days.” Recording always sounds anemic and tinny to me, whereas the first record actually had better balance and space. And Robert Forster was enormously fond of T.V.

They should exercise caution in their wishcasting. The shifting winds of the Latino vote may break those gerrymandered seats wide open if they choose to deny the lower court ruling. They could have spared themselves an embarrassment down the line by ducking out now.

Dim Philby to the rescue.

Precisely this. MJ expected a stall for resolutions. Senate leadership saw this coming and stood the entire Senate down.

It just occurred to me this transition may catalyze a further break or disruption in his mental state. I’m not a professional, but it’s not difficult to imagine his defenses / circuits are overwhelmed now.

Knowing when the original memo was sealed — and by whom — might shed some light on this conspicuous concealment.
November 19, 2025 at 11:59 PM
The Senate leadership probably chose this option to out-maneuver Johnson’s weaseling about-face. MJ assumed it would stall there for resolutions. Now T and his lackey must own their capitulation. We shall see.

Even Project 2025, in its salivating ambition, states — begrudgingly — working with Congress to dismantle parts of the Dept. of Ed. They know.
