A threat to his feelings.
Before jumping to "if voters don't think Ds will take it seriously" you must acknowledge that those voters have been duped into thinking that immigration & crime are worse than they are & that brown others are responsible. Ds have always taken crime seriously but don't fight it by promoting racism.
