Yeah it makes sense. Sapele and Honduran get these weird little squiggles that are hard explain that aren’t exactly medullary rays, plus the color are kind of what I was clocking. I’ve really only ever worked one piece of Honduran because I’ve historically had access to free African mahogany lol

Actually now that I’m using my thinking brain since it came from a restorer and carved well it probably is just good old Honduran mahogany.

Did it have a pretty strong smell? Sapele normally has kind of a spicy smell. It definitely does have interlocking but i think it depends on the tree and seems more prominent on the quarter sawn face. I don’t think I consider it quite as interlocked as elm

Ooo that’s really cool. I made a little votive holder recently on a whim. It doesn’t reflect very well because I glazed it with just and iron glaze 😂 not thinking ahead with that one.

That’s a lovely spoon. I should really do more like that but I love the idea of a deep scoop and it’s such a fight 😂. I’d be willing to bet big money that’s sapele.
