the wood of a picnic table, a canvas DENSELY packed with all sorts of etchings, in large part various names & initials of couples who may or may not still be together; and also a somewhat faded but still visible large red spray painted GAY a rusted iron frame containing what was probably at one point some educational blurb, but now just another open canvas for doodles, INCLUDING THE COOL S!!! which as a kid I knew by the name "stussy", and I am SO glad to see still making appearances here and there! the locked door of a power box, with some spray painting in stylized puffy blue lettering by SWIF, whoever they are, but more poignantly, a number of RIP tributes to "coco", who was evidently an artist known to the community the back of the same locked power box, with more tributes to Coco around the perimeters, but all kinds of scattered messages across the door, including tributes to Dolope, "STAY ALIVE, TRUMP WANTS YOU DEAD" in red, and "IF YOU ARE READING THIS" followed by unintelligible text... yes I am reading it, as sometimes the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls.

a section of the dried mud wall of a riverside, bathed in sunlight and spotted with dozens of holes (made by wasps perhaps?), resembling a pueblo, but very inhabited, a visible hub of activity more dried mud wall of a riverside, more shrouded in shade but still spotted with several generations of holes (made by wasps is my best guess), resembling a pueblo, but with clear evidence of nature activity a panoramic view from the top of one of the hills that help form the valley trail below; the location of the river is very clear from the surrounding trees lining its path through the otherwise flat grassy plains one of my favorite views to play with: looking through an old hollowed-out tree stump to a visible patch of sunlight at the far end, in this case a messy patch of standing water, cluttered with cobwebs, twigs, and all manner of organic debris

a close-up of the berries of poison oak (which until then, I had not realized that they had, yikes), almost resembling wasabi edamame - tiny berry-sized, but wrinkly like a pumpkin, with mostly white skins but dark black inside the wrinkles for a very distinctive/articulated appearance a rusted steel signpost with a relief of the park's logo, an outline of an elk head with antlers, which has been covered in the dribbling uncleaned shit of several weeks' worth of birds who have perched there a close-up of rusty brown dirt with the shadow of two specimens of a particular type of weed that I had to do some deep googling to find the name of, "Filaree", which as a kid I just referred to as the "twister" plant because the seeds would curl into a spiral shape and just spin & float down if you threw them in the air. The shadows in present state are more spear-like. a portion of dried-out creek bed mud, both deeply cracked, and leaving the shoe imprints of a prior passer-through; the grooves leave shadows, as do the surrounding thick blades of grass

Oak Canyon (appropriately enough), December 2020, a probably 180 degree horizontal panorama of a magnificent oak tree just growing every which way across the ground, 50 feet in all directions, even beginning to be covered up by dirt and trod over and still growing, in places from a folder labeled "Not Piro Canyon" (meaning I got lost and wound up on a different trail on the way to my intended destination), October 2021, a wide view of an open plain thick with tumbleweeds and other bushy vegetation, under a blue & cloudy sky with mountains in the distance, and directly center of view, an asphalt road, cracked at times, leading direct into who knows where; for me this felt like the best single representative image of the spirit of the California desert. Hummingbird Flats, June 2021, a long shot of a portion of rock shaded from the bright light around it, a curious long layer of "waviness" flowing between the more conventional rock appearance on either side, I'm unsure if perhaps petrified wood, or an ancient sedimentary layer, or who knows what? but a fascinating texture/pattern Los Pinetos Canyon, November 2020, an experimental "fisheye" side view of a concrete structure, above which is caked in generations of graffiti, below which is exposed underground structure caked in dried dirt as a result of the ground being washed away by flooding, the two divided by a thin 6" sheet of concrete "floor" that marked where the intended ground level was at one time
