I'm not so sure about k-12 schools being obligated. At least not in my district. Being an advocate for my child was a full time job. My district would have been happy to drop my son's accommodations if I hadn't fought for them

I think I did it because of the character's vulnerability. Her husband had just left her. She was drunk and looking for revenge. It wasn't enjoyable and she regrets it almost immediately.
