I think that's a Switch 2 version, but not a Switch 2 Edition. The latter implies there is a bespoke patch you can obtain, free or paid, but SxSG doesn't have any way to make your Switch 1 copy Switch 2 native.

I can neither check it out, and I would rather buy the game completely digitally, rather than on a GKC. Digitally, the game does work that way, but I haven't seen anyone see if a GKC (which I think this is the only case) works on a Switch 1.

I'd be more wary to do that distinction, because games like Civilization VII Switch 2 Edition is a Game-Key Card, and those are definitely unusable on a Switch 1. But it is a good approximation to say – if you can obtain a Switch 2 Upgrade Path, it is likely the physical game is playable on SW1.

If I'm reading right, it's also a Switch 1 + Upgrade Path, so it could be played on a Switch 1 besides being usable on Switch 2.

I don't even think it needs to be actually reverse engineered. And there are cases of Nemesis systems that are even more complex:
- Romero Games Empire of Sin is the most near that base.
- Rimworld (and Stardeus) story system generators are quite near.
- Crusader Kings 2/3 goes WAY BEYOND.
