Systematic theology is second nature to us theologians, so it's easy to forget that the average person probably only knows to Tillich's ontology, Barth's model of revelation, and one or two Eucharistic presence theories. And Thomism of course. Of course. Even when they're trying to compensate for it, experts in anything wildly overestimate the average person's familiarity with their field.

i love a good gothic stone church as much as anyone, i attend such a cathedral 5 times a week and am about to start going once midweek to another one much like it but even moreso, but my favorite will always be the simple hyperprot americana meeting house filled with pews and a moveable wooden table

yeah i don't disagree with either term necessarily when correctly nuanced, but 1) they're really just expressing the same participations in God's grace that all Christians participate in, only moreso because the Mother of God is more central and more perfectly aligned with God's will, and 2) it's one of those things where even if it's not technically wrong, it places a LOT of trust on every Christian to understand the nuances and is just clearly on an Marialotrous trajectory on a pastoral level same reason I agree with the 100% exclusion of ora pro nobis style invocation of the saints in public liturgy

Here's my description of An Outline of the Faith. i go into criticisms of it after this, but honestly, that's like two notes on full marks
It is a good summary of the Catholic faith. Not all Anglicans are necessarily going to agree with every word, nor are they bound to, but this is clearly representative of the Anglican tradition as we have received it, with its Reformed heart and Catholic mind. For my part, I have long held that the Catechism contains not only the faith of our particular church, but of the Church itself; these are the essentials of the apostolic deposit, without serious deletion or accretion, and anything it contains that is accidental to that deposit is clearly described within it as developed by the Church across history. It is not a full systematic theology and it does not contain the answer to every question a Christian might have. Instead, it provides the basis for theology, an articulation of the “rule of faith” which provides the merely Christian jumping-off point for finding deeper answers. The more we align ourselves with the teachings of this document, the closer we will be to holding that faith without falling into heresy.
