It's been a long week, dismantling my entire vinyl collection and restacking everything I want to keep long term. I've already sold over $180 of records via discogs and have this lot to list.

It's been cathartic. I found stuff that was misfiled years ago.

So many great tracks...

Morning all, not as cold as expected here on the Colorado frontrange. Also not as cold as Mark Gardner's heart before writing this review of what otherwise became a classic!

January 1965 issue of Jazz magazine, Vol. 4, No. 1

Included this logo and “All Americans are born without prejudice – let’s live that way” – seems appropriate in January 2026, 61 years after the article appeared.

Spent yesterday evening at the Muse performance space in Lafayette Colorado as a nod to the great JJ Johnson celebrating his born day.

Go see live jazz wherever you can, schools, colleges, bars, it doesn't have to be expensive but does need to be seen and heard #jazz

Morning all. Cancelled the trip to Davos because, well, I'd rather spend my time listening to the 72 best tracks Anthony Jackson played on...

In other news, I didn't know the Space Oddity thing until I just read it.

I tripped over this while looking for something else, I'd don't ever remember hearing it before.

11 people died trying to get into a Who concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati. Seven young men, four young women. 18,000 people scrambling for mostly open seating.

Freddie Hubbard to Leonard Feather... meanwhile jazz police bemoan the commercialization of their beloved art form.

Finally finished my piece on the strange story and missing live album recorded on 1/18-19, 1967 by Cal Tjader at El Matador. It will be available free from Sunday 1/18 ctproduced.com

I'm still looking for a complete analog or digital recording of the Columbia Pictures 1968 film "For Singles Only"

I have a lot of "northern soul", mostly CD compilations. I'm inclined to agree with your summary, at least 40% is dull, but there are many more great tracks than you might think.

Al Wilson's The Snake and of course the Wigan Casino three before eight... Jimmy Radcliffe, Tobi Legend African American

On Aug. 30, 1966, she chained herself, while clad in a hot pink catsuit, to the Golden Gate Bridge in protest, noting that she “felt like Joan of Arc.” Her antics attracted fascinated reporters who made a point to provide D’Angers’ measurements (“44-21-36!”) in almost every story.

Tom Stewart's 1956 album for ABC Paramount, one of the first produced by Creed Taylor after his move to the label.

Interestingly, Herbie Mann plays tenor sax on four tracks. Mann and Taylor ran on parallel tracks for many years after both arriving in NYC around the same time.

The holiday/vacation holiday period has been a massive investment in time with a new overhead scanner for my digital archive.

I've almost completed scanning 1,196 Down Beat magazine issues; I've added 196 book scans; including re-do's of everything Gene Lees wrote. Starting tomorrow, Waxpoetics

Which reminds me of this paragraph, taken from a 1965 Aug, 5th edition of the Runcorn Weekly News. The article was about the Warburtons, Ron and wife Mary who had come to visit family

1958 October Playboy. Robert, a Hi-fi fan is considering jacking it all in to buy a stereo.

I wonder what he'd make of the CD vs vinyl wars?

Somewhere in the house is a 17 year old with whom we are supposed to be watching stranger things. She's gone.

I put this on loud, it's such a great compilation. "Jazz for quiet times" - perfect waiting music.

Also the bass is so good...
