Yeah, the amount of blank stares from older dudes when it was pointed out to them that the 26-year old woman ABD candidate likely was super uncomfortable sitting on HIS goddamn bed while he and two of his dude colleagues grilled her with the door shut was absolutely unbelievable.

Later AHA set up a sort of bullpen in a conference room where different schools would have a block of time in one section of it to do their series of interviews. It was awkward trying to do these sort of things where others could listen in but 1000% better than a goddamn closed hotel room.

I know at least for several jobs I applied for that there was explicitly timing for the first round interviews at the conference and the rooms were seen as a "well, the department is already paying for this space" sort of thing which was so tone deaf it wasn't funny.

Right? I read this and the "usual suspects" quoted was a Republican strategist and no one else. I haven't seen literally any member of the democratic party say "we have to pivot from Epstein" and while I get the article is trying to head those instincts off, that's in tension with the headline.
