Listen I hate late stage capitalism too, but I'm glad we continue to get better and more efficient video codecs.

Yeah, though the way an enthusiast uses codecs to compress things personal to them is much different than the scale of say Meta encoding millions of Instagram clips.

With enough compute and bits anything is possible, but it’s the constraints & cost that motivate most of this development.

hopefully you can continue riding that wave for a while though :3

I’m still trying to get a tv network I work for to switch to x264/x265 for their OTT services instead of these lousy embedded encoder cards that reboot on a weekly basis, have broken qp controls, and need double the bandwidth :p

it was always intended to be versioned, and will hopefully move quicker now that there’s industry momentum for it
