Check out this 1923 transit plan commissioned by the Chicago City Council. We use to be insanely ambitious. A network like this would've supported Paris-level population densities.

One rider had to say: "The wait time would go down one minute and then back up two minutes. Finally got down to 2 minutes and that bus completely dropped off the tracker and the next one is an additional 10 min wait."
