Ordet and hors d'oeuvres. Did I just invent a new kind of party?

John Waters famously quipped you should not fuck anyone who has no books in their home. We should update the sentiment to be about people who create, then post AI-generated Miyazaki images.

As the “art” proliferates, so should our outrage and capacity to shame/ostracize those who spread it.

With each new day more dispiriting than the last and only a handful of things to look forward to on the horizon, maybe now, at long last, it is finally Morbin' time.

It's almost the most magical time of the year in Columbus, when documentary filmmakers descend on the city en masse! Super excited about this year's Unorthodocs lineup!

This is my MEGAPOLIS! I'm sure they'll make the material more sentimental and for normies but this is still pretty wild source material for a narrative film. variety.com/2024/film/ne...

I'm glad the amazing news about The Annihilation of Fish restoration is getting out. Anyone in the area should come to Columbus next month to see Burnett introduce the world premiere of it! Do it to spite Todd McCarthy!! wexarts.org/film-video/a...

I don't know which is funnier: that there's a 2022 Death of Mr. Lazarescu calendar or that it has one single one-star rating.

I'm not even sure how to reach Skandies voters anymore but I hope I'm not the only person who has watched HBO's You Were My First Boyfriend by votin' time. It'll factor strongly in my ballot and can round out people's Best Scene category quite well.

Had a great week of NYFFing this year with exceptional projection and even better sound. My first festival in 3.5 years and first at NYFF in 8. My 5 faves:
5. THE DUPES (Saleh)
4. HIT MAN (Linklater)
3. JANET PLANET (Baker)
2. PICTURES OF GHOSTS (Mendonça Filho)
1. LA CHIMERA (Rohrwacher)

I know I don't know many folks here but also don't feel like posting at the other place. I'll be NYFFing for the first time since 2015 if anyone is there. I've got a super full schedule with P&I+Public screenings and two Sondheim productions so meal time will be a rarity!

My only take on the movie TikTok discourse is that they're not replacing Pauline Kael and Andrew Sarris; they're replacing Mary Hart and John Tesh.

If Bradley Cooper doesn't play this over the end credits, I'm asking for a refund!

I can't believe that Kris Kristofferson outlived Sinead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKeJifOXAnA

There aren't many musicians who feel more embedded in who I am than Sinead. I so cherish getting to see her in concert twice. On WOMAD's sole US tour she came back during Peter Gabriel's headlining set to duet on Don't Give Up and Blood of Eden. A concert moment that's rarely been topped for me.

Sinead shook the world. I know she certainly shook mine. Lion and the Cobra was truly life-changing. One of the true artistic titans of my lifetime. I hope she finds peace. And there are few deaths where that phrase feels more appropriate.
