Yeah Trinket did a good video last month making the same point. When your IP is just other IP’s, eventually the well runs dry

I haven’t played it yet - but have heard a lot of the same sentiments from those who have

And games like Riftbound + FAB are doing their best to double down on the competitive angle now that Magic isn’t also trying to own that anymore.

Agree with you there as well - I think we are just in the age of commander being king. It was standard for a long time, but the pandemic did a huge number on what magic was about - and now that they have opened the box of funko toys too, it’s hard to see that shifting significantly.
November 11, 2025 at 2:04 AM
I’m in 100% agreement with you if that isn’t clear - I’m not trying to argue with you here. I’m more just clarifying they won’t make anything close to the changes you’re recommending until it has a meaningful impact on the bottom line.
November 11, 2025 at 1:57 AM
I think that you wildly overestimate how much hasbro execs care about anything other than $, and that is all driven by commander.

You have correctly identified problems with the number of sets and length of standard rotations.

They are simply not set up with a team or staffing model to do what you’re suggesting though, and once the cards go to print, that is that. Not sure how you expect they’d make changes from the past
November 11, 2025 at 1:42 AM
They are testing it within the context of the environment as it existed at the time the set was being designed.

There’s no way for them to retroactively make changes based on interactions from future sets - that’s what banning are a tool that exist for.

Looks like you could gift some to the tots!
November 11, 2025 at 1:25 AM
I find it’s more common that people overestimate their decks bracket - so I would definitely be dubious of that behavior.

That being said - the level of discussion you’re facilitating being new is A+, just keep doing the best you can. It won’t work out every time.

If you’re local SCG con is coming next month and will have those things!
October 26, 2025 at 1:57 AM
Yeah it was big sad - still going tomorrow but hear ya
October 26, 2025 at 1:39 AM
Yep - it is the current state of things and likely will be failing some huge paradigm shift
October 24, 2025 at 1:43 AM
You also aren’t obligated to make any changes to it.

You can if you want to of course, but there aren’t outside forces pressuring you to do so.

Also speaking as someone from the age of “60 card casual” there were no generally accepted rules for deck construction pre-commander. It is a big deal.

They would be happy to have 5 benjamins now

I feel like dust reading this.

Those are all dope cards though

Only for:

- If something major changes about the deck
- to include new lands

I think this is exactly what you’re looking for. Deck I designed moxfield.com/decks/cD2bRU...

Yep agreed all around.

Sounds like I’ll see you there next year then (I go for Gamehole con but we can still hang)
September 30, 2025 at 4:33 AM
Could just come to Cube Con!

Also got 8 games in, a couple less than I’d hoped.
September 30, 2025 at 4:30 AM
While I do think I like the consistency of “if your commander would go to another zone, you can instead put it in the command” I surely agree with the sentiment that if your deck is non functional without your commander you’ve constructed it poorly.

You should take advantage, but not rely on it
