It's the most wonderful time of the year. When I bailed out of Lee Enterprises, a bit of timing left me with a fragment of a share of their stock. Ever since, they've spent money each year to ask me how I feel about their plans, and I've sent back the proxy because it costs them $$ to process it.

I was the census reporter at my paper in 1990, and my editor was excited to find that one little town had gained a surge in diversity since 1980. I had genuine difficulty in explaining to her that they'd opened a prison in 1983. Don't blame reporters for the stories they're assigned to write.
