Transforming Data into Climate Resillience for Cold Regions
Located in Ladakh, this glaciated valley hosts the Chalong, Sangso, and Lamo #glaciers, along with a striking proglacial lake in front of the Lamo Glacier, and is one of the major sites being researched under #CryoSCOPE.❄️🏔️

In August 2025, CryoSCOPE partners in India installed two time-lapse camera systems above 3300 m a.s.l. in Ladakh to track snow depth at sub-daily scales. Each system records at 1-hour intervals.

Locations:
🔹 Outwash region of the Chalong catchment
🔹 Panikhar Village

Meltwater from glaciers and snow effects global ecosystems.
Within CryoSCOPE we aim to understand how much water will be available for irrigation and plant-water use across the various ecosystems of the Alps, the Himalayas and the Arctics.

2025 = Big year for ice! ❄️
It’s the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation and the start of the UN Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences.

At CryoSCOPE, we’re on it:
🔬 Tracking glaciers, snow & permafrost
🌐 Linking Alps, Himalayas & Arctic research

🧊 Data-driven science!
CryoSCOPE uses satellite data and field measurements, integrating these into physically-based and AI-driven numerical models to quantify changes in snow, ice and permafrost. Stay tuned for updates from Europe to South Asia!

🌍 Why CryoSCOPE?

🔁 Everything is connected. CryoSCOPE studies how the Cryosphere, Atmosphere & Hydrosphere (CAH) interact: assessing how snow and ice shape water flows to better predict climate change impacts in fragile cold regions.

From the Alps to the Himalayas and the Arctic, our fieldwork spans some of the planet’s most sensitive mountain and polar regions. Stay tuned as we uncover critical insights for the future of water and ecosystems.
