I mean, how do you know they didn't? Millions of Americans did vote for Harris, more than estimated for turn out. I hope we see more Democratic votes next year and today plays a part, but it is entirely possible not a person out today didn't vote for Harris(besides any that couldn't vote)

But very much not the Robert Reich way.

Clearly we need to bring back that fear then. Luigi's haunted mansion was a popular game.

I'm not 100% on the strategy, I think getting 70+% in the urban/suburb vote turnout seems like an easier path for dems statewide that only beto has really come close to recently, but maybe this version of getting "moderate " independents and Republicans to switch will work this time.

Honestly? I hope his Spanish is good. I kinda think Abbott's Spanish language ads with his wife have been more damaging than many dems would want to admit, and that Cruz wouldn't have gotten as far without his name. Otherwise seems like strong messaging for non urban voters?

Are you kidding? Schumer will be complaining the war isn't killing enough. Its what his message was just last week....

Again, when proponents of "abundance " say it is about defeating unions and workers rights....don't be surprised those groups and allies push back against "abundance "?
June 4, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Again, 3rd way themselves have publicly stated they view abundance as a way to protect corporate interests from politicians like AOC or Bernie. They disagree with Klein's support for public housing or tenants rights. It is a movement much larger than two authors of one book.
June 4, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Like, as a specific, local policy goal, more public housing I can support, and have at my city council. That's not all Abundance is, anymore though. It's not even just a book. It is a political movement that bad actors are actively pushing to achieve bad ends(from leftist perspective)
June 4, 2025 at 4:26 PM
Except if one good policy is supported by candidates/organizations that also support 3 bad policies, you don't think that's relevant? The trains running on time doesn't mean any politician supporting that should be supported.
June 4, 2025 at 4:26 PM
3rd way is an org dedicated to throwing lgbtq people, unions, and the poor under the bus to protect wealthy and corporate interests, and dress that up as electoral moderation. They'd rather elect people like Romney, than AOC, but claim to be democrats.
June 4, 2025 at 7:58 AM
The orgs like 3rd way barely care about the goals of Klein or other public building supporters, they don't hide that they see Abundance as a movement they can hijack to attack socialists and protect the wealthy and powerful. It's up to the abundance movement to prove them wrong or right, imo.
June 4, 2025 at 7:56 AM
I mean, a lot of the polarization is coming from orgs like 3rd way explicitly funding Abundance as a direct attack on leftists and are explicit they view it as a way to prevent AOC/Sanders style politicians gaining in the dem party. You can't really blame leftists for seeing that and being skeptical

I very much appreciate this thread and framing of the proposals, abd hope American advocates can start to use similar language and framing.

I would say worker protections should apply to ALL projects equally, and be paid for by those purchasing private housing, or taxpayers for public.
May 18, 2025 at 11:51 PM
I would describe worker/union protections as protections that Ezra and others at least heavily imply they want to do away with That is the wrong path to cost control, imo. I think Abundance isn't worth it if it isn't an abundance of fair wages for the workers who build it.
May 18, 2025 at 11:45 PM
The lack of acknowledging that all deregulation must be done carefully, with great specificity, to be clear there are not just good, but crucial protections that aren't on the chopping block. Framing democrats and government as more of a problem than Republicans or billionaires is the criticism.
May 18, 2025 at 6:19 PM
And neither Sam, nor I have ever said we are against zoning reforms and increasing building. It is the political framing of Abundance, and the other steps not being discussed that is the critique. The lack of advocacy around the faircloth amendment, for instance.
May 18, 2025 at 6:19 PM
Do you prefer de-financilization then? Land ownership shouldn't be a wealth building asset is the broad goal of most leftists i know, and Ezra even agrees with that goal in the interview with Sam.
May 18, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Yes, the medium term preferenc is housing may still be built occasionally for profit, but owning land isn't considered a wealth building asset. Builders are not the enemy, landowners are.
May 18, 2025 at 6:07 PM
There are libertarian rich wackos in the movement, but they don't drive most of the political dialog, and so haven't alienated as many local leftist organizations as the movement on social media seems to revel in doing.

I do think as much as national figures enjoy quoting Austin, they could stand do take more communications and organizing advice from us. Austin urbanists organized a majority renter city by emphasizing specific fixes and the need for public housing/tenant protections.
