Cabaret

Another spectacular show - my December is going well. The cast were incredible and it’s such a good story.

(You’re not allowed to take photos inside the venue at any point of performance so have one from a fairly mild winter night outside)

Jesus Christ Superstar

OH MY WORD!
This was an incredible show and up there with one of the best I’ve seen this year, both pro and amateur.
ALW better have an amazing Judas for his revival next year, because this one was phenomenal.

The Spy Who Came in from the Cold

Intense Cold-War spy thriller set in the 60s. Strong performances from a great cast and a cracking plot.
Love Soho Place as a venue too.

Ride the Cyclone

Interesting plot, good characters and some great songs. Clearly on its way to being a cult classic, but the end landed a little soft to me
I doubt I’m the target audience, as it’s v teen orientated. Had great visuals and staging.

Dreamgirls

The talent in this was extraordinary. Great show based allegedly (legal reasons) on the story of Diana Ross and the Supremes and the history of Motown.

Strong voices particularly from the women who were so darn powerful! Good night out.

Interesting play based on Nellie Bly’s turn of the century investigation into women’s asylums.

Wendy & Peter Pan

Fantastic staging and great performances from a good cast.
It was a little overlong and the plot at times irritated me because of the stereotyping.

Three Noel Coward Plays

A bit patchy in places but an enjoyable evening.

I like cosy murder mysteries so I came to see Midsomer Murders: Murder at Badger’s Drift

Starring Daniel Casey who was the original sidekick on tv (Troy) now playing Tom Barnaby who used to be played by Bergerac 😀

Anyway it was a lot of fun even if I knew the plot!

Blessings

Set in 1969, this play had the right atmosphere - wallpaper included.
Good performances from a strong cast but the twist didn’t land as a surprise with me.

Christmas Carol Goes Wrong

Lucky enough to see a rehearsal of Mischief’s new version of their Christmas show.
We were asked not to post photos in case it spoiled anything, but I can tell you that it’s very funny and great to have a new take on a classic.

Vardy V Rooney: The WAGatha Christie Trial

Second time seeing this but from a different group. It’s actually a pretty funny play - very Fringe and suited to amdram.

Bacchae

A retelling of the Greek Tragedy by Euripides. With contemporary language and attitudes.
Brilliant show with powerful performances from the whole cast. Strong visuals and great staging.

This was a really fun adaptation of the play, reset in the 1920’s.

English Kings Killing Foreigners

Interesting concept and two very talented performers. Henry V becomes a powerful lens through which we see current events.
A blend of seriousness and comedy made this well worth the visit.

Assassins

Sondheim musical about those who’ve tried and/or succeeded to assassinate presidents.
A lot of US history I didn’t know (particularly the Nixon and Ford eras).
A razzmatazz show yet at times it felt flat.
Banger of an ending though.

Ok, third time seeing this but this time one of my friends was in it. I am so chuffed to see him on stage and living his pro-acting dream!

Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts

I’ve had a mixed experience of play adaptations of TV shows but decided to book because I love the Morse series and like Tom Chambers.
I enjoyed it (despite some moments of pure cheese) and would see more.

Interview
I admit I was interested in this show because of Robert Sean Leonard, who I loved in House.
Anyway it’s a decent play with a good plot and two very good actors.

First run in a week. Deviated from my normal route today and ended up running up a lot of steep roads but sadly didn’t seem to find any downhill paths - how does that work?
Third longest run (not saying much as I’m a 5k-er at heart and legs) and still a decent pace.

Born With Teeth

Great play with two astonishing actors. I knew Gatwa would be fab but Bluemel was exceptional too. The play started off quite light with some edge, yet took a much darker turn by the end.

A Man for All Seasons

I like this play a lot and also like Martin Shaw and Gary Wilmot (both of whom were great). Abigail Cruttenden was a wonderful bonus playing More’s wife, Alice.
