International Day for Women and Girls in Science. Wouldn’t it be nice though not to have a day like this, bc it just wasn’t needed bc everyone sat on the table as equals&was respected as such? I look forward to the day where we no longer need to have a special day of recognition

Conservation is not necessarily glamorous. Dissecting a 10ft American croc that had been in the sun for 3 days 🤢

Conservation is hard. People expect you to save wildlife, to help keep local aquatic ecosystems clean, to ensure coexistence- but when you ask for support… crickets. It’s a tug of war on the heart…

Personally, I think crocs have the best smiles!!! Happy yet confident!

It’s great when people don’t recognize me when I’m out. They are so used to seeing me in mud, getting dirty with crocs. And then when I’m dressed up… it’s like I’m a double agent. Yes! Field researchers can dress nice!

Conservation is not just about wildlife, it’s about people. If you want the long-term success of any conservation program, the communities living alongside wildlife must be involved

Poor croc was found emaciated. The vet found a hook in its stomach. People will use hooks to catch crocs 😔Hopefully we rescued him in enough time ❤️

10 years ago a dream of a young girl became a reality. I wanted to run a wildlife sanctuary to educate people the FACTS about nature, ending false fears and creating respect. The blood, sweat & tears… I never gave up because I couldn’t disappoint that little girl inside…

Any single mom scientists out there? I see you, I feel you, I hear you. You’ve got this. Your kids will look up to you one day and be amazed how you did it all! You got this!

The nails on the hind feet of female crocs are very helpful when it comes to creating a nest, or digging out hatchlings. So why are the nails of this croc so long? It could be a result of her environment, where there really isn’t anything naturally “filing” down her nails.

Gilly from @crocresearchcoal.bsky.social is a star as he filmed with Steve Irwin in 2003. I know he would have loved to film with Betty White, so created this for him 😉

Poor water quality causing blindness in crocodiles - what more of an alarm do we need?

My heart jumped when it snapped at us, just as bad as my heart jumped anytime I saw The Nun from The Conjuring movies!

Orinoco crocs are considered critically endangered given past exploitation for their skin.

What is that?

Paratrichosoma is a crocodilian parasite that leaves brownish trails on the ventral side of crocs. Those trails are actually microscopic circular scars of parasite eggs being expelled out into the environment. It is a benign parasite, which means it causes no harm to the crocodile

And now Gilly won’t need to eat for a month! Crocs don’t need to eat every day or every week if their last meal was a good size one given their metabolism.

Well Gilly won’t need to eat for the next month…
