I don't know if you're actively looking for a different narrative game to play, but Scarlet Hollow does a good job of tracking characters opinions of you/your choices without making them overt.

There’s a Webtoon called Surviving Romance that does this pretty well! Minor spoilers but a suicidal woman ends up getting isekai’d as the Mary Sue she wrote as a self-indulgent escape story.
Her love story keeps getting derailed by a zombie apocalypse and she learns to care for herself and others.

Suikoden 2 kinda had this. It made sense in-universe because the girl who teleported you was an airhead. There was a low chance to go to a hidden area with nice gear at least.

I completely agree with you that they’re trying to force “AI” into everything but that particular video was a joke advertising their new physical edition.
