A recent policy change by Trump Admin rolled back a Biden-era rule that allowed DACA recipients to access coverage through state-based marketplaces—advocacy for which CRLAF played an instrumental role. Covered California is being forced to disenroll about 2,400 DACA recipients.

🔑 Key takeaways from our partner, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)’s 2025 Travel, Digital Privacy, & Free Speech Guide: Know Your Rights at Airports and Borders: You have the right to remain silent and decline answering questions about your religion, political beliefs, and/or social media content. Plan Ahead: If you anticipate potential issues during travel, consult with a legal expert beforehand. Having a plan can help you navigate any challenges more effectively. Prepare for possible airport delays, extra questioning, or denial of re-entry. Back Up Documents: Keep physical and electronic copies of key travel and immigration documents (like your passport and proof of immigration status) in secure but accessible places. Notify Someone You Trust: Share your itinerary with someone who isn’t traveling with you, and stay in touch during your trip so they can alert a lawyer if necessary. Secure Your Devices: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers may inspect your electronic devices without a warrant. Consider storing sensitive information in secure cloud services and removing it from your devices before traveling; if checking luggage, may also store your devices in the checked bag. Use Strong Passwords and Encryption: Secure your devices with strong passwords and enable encryption to protect your data. Be aware that officers may request your passwords; refusing to provide them could lead to your device being detained. (Also, consider disabling facial and fingerprint recognition for device sign-in.) Be Cautious with Social Media: CBP may review your social media profiles. Do your best to ensure your posts do not contain content that could be misinterpreted or raise concerns. Know What “Denial” Means: If you’re denied entry, ask for the reason. A simple refusal, visa revocation, or expedited removal all have very different implications.

Another great OCPSC Region 2 meeting! Alongside OCPSC & several nonprofit orgs, CRLAF strives to continue working together to uphold strong vibrant communities. We also shared challenges and potential strategies for bringing the CalKids program to those who need it.

CRLAF staff had a wonderful time at OCPSC's “From Connection to Action: Trusted Messenger Convening” two day Conference last week! We were inspired to see so many groups coming together from across the state working to bring vital resources & services to California residents.

The Williamson Act (1965) was established to preserve CA farmlands. Initially offering property tax reductions to agriculture landowners & small-scale farmers, it now increasingly benefits large-scale investors & wealthy corporations.
