The real problem of training cats - they learn just fine BUT they apply it however they want!
That said, tangles can tug at the skin so it's possible your cat thinks the tangle is a serious problem. Dunno if you can convince a big cat to chill out about anything that bothers them.

I could be wrong but I think what's changed is you figured out your aesthetic preferences for photo results. Camera angles and such. I think you dialed in how to take a photo for your taste.

That said, it IS frustrating seeing a cat WATCH a creature instead of doing a damn thing useful about it.
Even bad hunting cats can at least scare the things into considering NOT openly scurrying across the floor at least. But just sitting there is rude and entitled cat behavior.

But giving someone a look of disgust and calling them an asshat works well for most things. Saying "I don't have the crayons to explain it to you" works for most anything else.
