The final episode of the original Aim for the Ace is insane, in a good way. Just a full blown expression of what Dezaki thought he could do in the medium of telemanga: wildly expressionistic, melodramatic in a narrative and artistic way, and always gorgeous.

God, this Spurs performance is shit. Same old problems: can’t pass, weak press, too direct, too predictable, low energy. City really should be 4 or 5 ahead by now.

Aim for the Ace isn’t this kind of show, but I’d love an episode where Hiromi has to play someone on a grass court and can’t deal with how low and fast the ball bounces. I’m not 100% sure, but most of the time it seems like they’re playing on clay.

Aim for the Ace making me wish I would take screenshots of anime. There's this incredible shot where Dezaki wanted a character smoking but because it'd be wrong for a teen girl so the character has a leaf in her mouth while the reflections from the water hit her face like cigarette smoke.

Too many people are sleeping on the fact that the writer for the new Ghost in the Shell is Toh EnJoe. If they let him cook, that series is going to be weirder, wilder ride than anyone expects.

I've been seeing the odd post about Kenichi (The Mightiest Disciple or History's Strongest Disciple, you be the judge) pop up lately and I'm worried forces are aligning to try and make Kenichi happen again. It shouldn't. We can put the fanservice battle manga away.

On the one hand, TikTok banning criticism of the US government is very bad. On the other hand, banning the name Epstein probably makes anime discourse on there easier to deal with.

Yet another half of Premier League football from Spurs that has me asking: "is this shitshow over so I can go back to playing Trails in the Sky?" Not a bad performance, Bissouma looks good back from Afcon, but still no teeth and some real non-defending on that Burnley goal.

The academy was right to not nominate Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part One or Chainsaw Man~Reze Arc~ for best animated feature, regardless of how much I may have enjoyed either one, considering that these are just glorified television specials.

Last season’s Tottenham was maybe technically worse, but the Europa League let me dream. This is the worst Spurs side in the 15 years I’ve been watching this team. Get Frank out of here and get some senior players for the frontline. The children’s crusade ain’t working.

Just watched Welcome to the NHK for the first time and I've decided: Crunchyroll should re-print every title from the Funimation S.A.V.E. series. They weren't discount titles, they were canonical texts!

The Ghost Stories dub isn’t incredible. It’s some vindictive bullshit by a company who likely had to acquire the show as part of a licensing package and made a mockery of artists who didn’t deserve it. I can deal with it being a meme, but let’s not pretend it’s “good.”

I was today years-old when I realized the big, toothy monster mash demon/alien designs in 80s/90s OVA are based on classical depictions of oni in Japanese mythology. I realized this when I thought "they all kinda look like Ogremon." Never let anyone tell you Digimon is irrelevant.
