Oh gawd. I can't even imagine the scene in the KC area. Poor animals. Of course humans won't stop this or any other harmful habit for their sake.
Happy New Year! 🎆

As expected, sadly, the radars once again lit up with MILLIONS of birds fleeing from #fireworks.

Lots of household income being burned up and shot up in our neighborhood right now. How more people aren't hit by bullets i have no idea. I sure as shit wouldn't be standing around outside right now.

It’s #winter. The buzzing has stopped - mostly.
So what’s happened to all the #bees?
Let me explain.
Please #repost this thread.
Don’t just like/look.
It literally takes you a second. Costs you nothing.
Bees are in trouble and need you good people to help.
Thank you.

Whoa! Today us quite a day for KC sports, and not in a good way. I once had to help consult on fundraising for Fong's GAGE center and visited briefly probably ~20 years ago. And the Current is hiring a mediocre replacement for Vlatko. And the Chiefs org is just a pile of shit, as usual. #KC

The two strays benefitting from Catalina's heating mats, and our attention, now that she is gone. Now they get regular food, water, and a very warm nook to hang out in. Not that they'll need it for our 70-F flippin' Christmas day

Oh yippee! We get to be screwed on hosting the World Cup, too! Holy hell. It just keeps getting better and better for the two KCs, both of which face severe structural budget shortfalls. Civic boosters are such heros, amiright?! #kansascity #wyco
FIFA’s bait-and-switch on sponsorships could cost US cities $250m during 2026 World Cup
I was on a stadium panel at Baruch College yesterday — video evidence to be available shortly, I hope — and one of the points I tried to make was that both elected officials and voters need to closely...

What's the difference between a burglar and an NFL owner?

A burglar takes your stuff and leaves. An NFL owner takes your stuff and then gives you a lecture about why it's for your own good.

Oh @kansascitystar.bsky.social , work harder. For instance cover our g.d. county commission meetings regularly. Your negligence has helped perpetrate this disaster on WyCo residents! We are getting so screwed, and no chance to even vote on said screwing. #WyCo #KCChiefs
Ugh, please don't publish assertions about the supposed "economic impact" of the new stadium. I've seen the "study", it is GARBAGE. Newspapers shouldn't be repeating propaganda as news. www.kansascity.com/news/local/w...

We're the poorest, most diverse county in KS, so of course our state legislature *and* our corpo-dem governor royally fucked over my county. Just awaiting the county commission to make the worst decisions, too. Because we all know they will, following precedent. #fuckthechiefs #fuckkansaspols
Want a nutshell summary of how bad this Kansas deal is for taxpayers? So bad that the state couldn't even get the team to comp food for its suite. Even after agreeing to give the team $2.775b.

I do not like a 72-degree Christmas Day.
Not in my northern latitude, no way.

Here's our >10-year-old hermit crab, Crabstopher Walken, changing shells. We rescued him from an event where people were "racing" them. Otherwise, please don't get these guys as pets! They require specific care and should not be removed from wild for pet trade. #hermitcrabs

Not a great option for Kansans, unless you want an Eastern red cedar. But we don't need more of those! Otherwise, most evergreens aren't really a "green" choice in our state. They'll need too much water.

‘Living’ Christmas trees? Some people are choosing evergreens they can replant after the holidays
Some tree farms in the central U.S. are selling more potted Christmas trees as people seek out an eco-friendly option or look to get more than one use out of their evergreens.

I'm glad so many are committed to NOT using this trash. Let 'em tank sooner rather than later bc the slop will engulf us all after those at the top of the pyramid gleefully steal away, having "got theirs"
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."

Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

So *over* all the big tech companies pushing AI at me. I've had it. Putting a Linux OS on my old computer (that Windows 11 won't install on anyway). I'm gonna get familiar with it then proselytize open source everything to my friends and coworkers. Fuck you Microsoft. You've pushed too far.

Well, the ones that insisted on having their litters in our 2nd floor ceiling (despite our work to exclude them, this past summer they tore a new hole in the roof!) must have become quite used to our voices and movement.
Human trash is 'kick-starting' the domestication of city-dwelling raccoons, study suggests
Raccoons that live near humans had shorter snouts than rural raccoons, a trait that tends to arise in the early stages of domestication.
