Some claim it was a dinosaur preserved in ice. Others believe it was a mammoth partially trapped in ice that had deteriorated over the years making it unrecognizable. Others claim it was a hoax. Whatever the case may be, the Glacier Island carcass remains a mystery frozen in time. Keep it Creepy!

In the world of cryptozoology there are what are known as globsters. These rotting husks of unknown origins wash up on shores daring scientists and witnesses alike to identify them. Often they defy identification and in the case of the Glacier Island carcass they defy any categorization.

Cases such as the "vampiric caterpillar" continue to baffle and perplex researchers, forever blurring the line between cryptozoology and the paranormal. Was it an animal? Was it demonic? Was it something otherworldly? Was it mistaken identity, or simply a hoax? Can we ever know for sure?

Many skeptics point out that volcano fueled boiling waters could be to blame for some sightings, while others claim it could be sub-aquatic tremors, but with waters so muddied, perhaps the truth will forever elude us.

Living dinosaurs have been proposed as an explanation, as well as an unknown species of mammalian herbivore similar to a hippopotamus, but the stories of Lake Khaiyr and its monster infested waters is often just dismissed as a hoax.

While there would be no other witnesses to Dr. Nikolai Gladkikh's sighting on November 21, 1964. Just 2 days later the expedition's chief, Dr. G. Rukosuyev as well as 2 of his assistants would claim to witness the creature for themselves when it again emerged from the lake.

Lake Khaiyr is an isolated lake resting on top of an active volcano. Stories of bizarre creatures being seen in the lake date back at least back to 1940 when 2 large creatures were witnessed in the lake by pilots flying over.

While the description of el chupacabra has evolved over the years, for its first 9 months it was an elusive killer that left only a trail of death in its wake. Since 1995 it has been catapulted into the pantheon of classic cryptids such as Bigfoot, Yeti, and the Loch Ness Monster. Keep it Creepy!

While the original story of Kent's Bat Beast would be given a ghostly explanation, later references would lean more toward the UFO involvement. Do you think these tales are related?

The description of the creature as having no head, "waddling" as if having difficultly walking, the wings on the back, the connection to bright lights in the sky, the fact they're almost on the same day but separated by 3 years, the witnesses are 2 young couples roughly the same ages, etc ...

While not Mothman, it's hard to dismiss the similarities. Mixing UFOs, ghosts, and cryptids, this tale in many ways is a precursor to the stories of high strangeness surrounding the Mothman of Point Pleasant.

Not even 24 hours after the Scarberrys and Mallettes were pursued by the winged nightmare that would eventually be dubbed "the Mothman," (see yesterday's post) the creature would make another appearance.
This time, the witness would stand a mere 3 feet from the monstrous thing !

One sad thing missing from our post is that while fleeing from the Mothman, the witnesses saw a large dead dog on the side of the road. Merle Partridge (see yesterday's post) would read that in the newspaper and speculated that it was his missing dog Bandit which had vanished the night before.

While the story of Merle (Newell) Partridge's dog Bandit seemingly ends tragically, for many, including Merle himself, the story was only beginning. What was about to be unleashed would rock West Virginia and the world!

For 18 months, the people of Point Pleasant, West Virginia were haunted by the Mothman. With it came mysterious lights in the sky, bizarre strangers harassing its citizens, and other more unexplainable phenomenon. However, some claim that the story of the Mothman began in Clendenin, West Virgina.
