The stepmother was sentenced for her body to be cut into pieces & shown around the country. The half-brother was killed by hanging. The father was exiled in the early version but was let go in the later because the rise of ✨patriarchy✨ (7/7)

The governor summoned the sisters’ father and stepmother who told him that the girls killed themselves out of shame. They brought the ‘dead foetus’ as a proof. But the governor cut its belly open & found rat droppings inside. (6/?)

She hid a skinned rat in Jang-hwa’s bed while she was asleep & said she had a miscarriage. Then she had one of her sons drown Jang-hwa in a pond & told the father that his unclean daughter had to be killed for the honour of the family. He believed the story without investigation. (4/?)

They said their mother died young and left the two of them. So their father, a local official, wedded their abusive stepmother who gave him three sons. When Jang-hwa was old enough to get married, the stepmother decided to frame her so that the money for her dowry would be saved for her sons. (3/?)

Since then, Cheoyong’s face has been used as talisman to keep away illnesses. Cheoyongmu - Cheoyong’s Dance - became a court dance performed in royal banquets or New Year’s Eve ceremony to dispel evil spirits & promote good luck. (3/3)

Instead of expressing his anger, he walked away, dancing and singing a song. (Moon-lit night of the capital/ Four feet upon return/ Two once belonged to mine/ Whose could the other two?) Greatly moved by this, the god of plague promised not to appear in front of Cheoyong ever again. (2/?)

The terrified wife waited for the tiger to disappear into the dark & burned the book. Unfortunately, burned with the book was its magic power of transformation. The tiger was now unable to come back to his human form. (4/5)

The son started sneaking out every night as a tiger and bringing small animals he hunted. His wife got suspicious and spied on him. She watched that one moment he was reading a book & next thing he turned into a tiger! Its body was as big as a mountain and its eyes looked like burning lanterns! (3/)
