The more I think about UNBEATABLE, the more I am amazed it's even in front of me. During my online carrer, I had the opportunity to follow 3 games through several different stages of development (Pizza Tower, ANTONBLAST, Captain Wayne), do playtesting for them, offer localisation efforts, and even making my own playable mods for other games. The unique challenges I've seen these developers face (and have faced myself by modding) from every aspect of game development really put it into perspective how hard it is to get anything made these days. While I can't speak for these devs, the entire reason we do games, or art, is to express ourselves. I have some intention of expressing myself and pay tribute to a feeling, a moment, just sorta anything that has shaped me to the person I am today, and do it in my own little weird ways. Either it be through a silly reanimation in Aseprite, chinseling away at sculpts in Blender, or getting those voicelines for a Deep Rock Galactic voicemod just right in Audacity. I'm sure the same goes for almost every game dev out there, as well. UNBEATABLE to me is nothing short of that raw, emotional tribute that exact feeling I vowed never to forget. I count myself as incredibly lucky to be alive as of today, and this game is a testiment to that, just via the lens of another director. I am fully convinced UNBEATABLE only exists in this form because "dude, it would be sick as hell." Everything about UNBEATABLE is raw, honest, and in your face. The small imperfections, the big emotional heights, I don't know what else. All I know is that I had a good time with this game every step of the way, despite the awkwardness in the dialouge or the jank here and there. I really can't care about all of that, because when I see UNBEATABLE, I see a team that has worked their absolute ass off getting this thing done. Exactly like I have on many occasions, albeit in smaller scale. I see the challenges they have faced, I see the effort that has gone into it. I see the 77 track list and just think "How did this happen without anyone pulling their hair out? Or only... slightly?" Despite this game being imperfect, ♥♥♥♥ man. I can't look away. I simply can't. UNBEATABLE is a messy painting I can't look away from. It's art in its purest form. And I think that's sick as hell.
