this is definitely fine! you can always combine the approaches like i said and load the resources into your globals. assume NPC in area A reacts to when a chest opens in area B, this allows the NPC to react to this without actually having to request this resource from the filesystem.

use globals when you want to access the information anywhere and when you don't need multiple copies or different variations of the data.
resources can be duplicated, make variants, etc. they're good for things like stats, metadata, etc. you can combine resources with globals as well.

uhhh no, not any newer IDEs to my knowledge, ive heard helix is nice though.

currently working on a developer console plugin for godot with an accompanying documentation website and some various tools with it, generally whatever piques my interest though!
