Although, really, it was only 9 days earlier because 2024 was a leap year.

10 days earlier, on November 13th, 2024. So we're improving slightly :)

Only an idiot would think this would decrease migration. How are those Afghan interpreters doing?
November 24, 2025 at 4:08 AM
A bit, sure, but news outlets are being assholes by not calling crashes "accidents" and not covering them proportionately to other violent events.

It's a story about transportation safety. I'm simply providing context about transportation safety. It's like if going to the beach and horseback riding were the only tourist activities available, and people constantly chose horseback riding due to fear of sharks while posting shark attack stories.

It's not personal. The numbers show that diverting dollars from traffic cops to transit cops causes a net decrease in safety.

So you're ignoring the 215,000 car fires that fire departments respond to each year in the US? Why do you keep insisting that one unique incident is more indicative of risk than the severe incidents so common they don't receive news coverage? You sound like someone more afraid of sharks than horses.

All deaths are sad, which is why I'm sad that some people are choosing to drive instead of take public transportation on account of perceptions of the relative danger of public transportation. The people making that choice cause a net increase in deaths.

Over 200,000 vehicles crash every year in Chicago and we have ~4,000 miles of streets/roads, so assuming a crash cleanup time of 1 hour each, crash cleanup will be visible for 50 hours a year on any given mile.

Lmao from one war criminal to another
November 23, 2025 at 3:44 AM
People focus on things like this instead of the 22,754 injuries and 81 deaths caused by cars in Chicago so far this year because we're conditioned to think car crashes are normal.

Data per registered vehicle is interesting. The number for North Korea is truly mind-blowing. Could be something funny about how registrations are handled there idk

I put like 2 miles on an escooter in the twin cities thanks to being very stubborn and just kicking it along to my destination, not realizing I had to kick it back to somewhere it considered an acceptable parking spot afterward.
