As an immigrant myself--I had never put on skates until I was into my 30s--I relate. My first time ever skating was on the Ontario-Quebec border. Pretty sure the kids there come out of the womb, get wrapped in a blanket, and then get baby skates on their feet. Those preschoolers sure fly past you.

also none of us are pro hockey calibre but i'd like to see those rich kids used to their million-dollar facilities skate into a 65 km/h lakeshore headwind

It really is. What a nice thing to just have here for everyone.

I love the little rink at Bellwoods and my summer indoor arenas but it's so nice having the trail back omg. And keeping up on the skating through the whole summer has definitely paid dividends today

I have only the vaguest idea of how many calories I *need*, but I have a very clear idea of how many noodles I *want* after biking uphill for 15km to the handmade noodle place 18h after eating anything more substantial than a small bowl of fruit, and it is "all of them"

Taiyaki is a wonderful after-skate snack

I love that I have a "home arena" now and kept up skating indoors all summer, but goodness it's nice to be back outside. The ice quality is Very Poor this early in the season but the sun is on your face and the air is fresh and crisp and not smelling like hvac mould and legionnaire's disease
