Treasury at CommunicationFIRST. Father of three. Husband to one. Neurodivergent. Disabled. (he/him)
Yet, I also know his energy lives on in the work and future ahead.

I’ll close out below with words from “The Only Song of God”, Steve's tribute to Jerry Garcia.

I love you Steve. Safe travels, my friend.

Across that bridge are spirits kindred to your own.

He showed me that out there in the world is a neurodivergent community to claim as your own.

A community to seek out, to embrace, to carve out spaces for, and to fight for.

A point in my life where I'd accepted and was confident in myself.

Yet reading Steve’s book, I experienced a dismantling of my idea of who I was and a reassembly of my self awareness.

Steve gave me new eyes to see with and a new lineage to belong to.

That neurodiversity is an inheritance we give to our children.

I read Steve's book to understand my autistic daughter.

What I didn't expect and was astonished by was his words helping me discover the shape of my self.

Steve Silberman gave me a new looking glass to witness her through.

He wrote a book called Neurotribes on the history of autism which told stories about autistic people.

Its pages offered me a new framework to understand my fellow human beings with.

I invite you to hear my @stevesilberman.bsky.social story.

Once upon a time my world turned upside down and inside out.

It was 2016 and receiving my daughter’s medical diagnosis was like hearing a scratch on a vinyl record.

Autism was a subject I knew nothing about.

Thinking about you, my friend.

The energy and the wisdom you shared in this life has helped so many of us.

Though your absence in this life brings sorrow, what you've left behind brings so much clarity and joy.

Love you. May your memory be a revolution.

With these words, Stacey Milbern Park gave me a people I could connect to, honor, learn from, and change myself with.

"It's because of them I know the power of building home with whatever you have, wherever you are, whoever you are with."

Communing with them helps me through.

When Halloween decorations, Taylor Swift Movie Posters, and a book about communication experiences of all kinds shuffle themselves into artwork you happen to photograph.

Here’s an image of Cassidy and her teacher working with a letterboard.

She likes to trace each letter every time she picks up one up.
