Might post about music, tv, sports, science, or politics/real life irritations, but will mostly post about gaming. Expect lots of Final Fantasy takes. (He/Him)
#22.5 - Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (Plat trophy)

One of the best tactical RPGs of all time gets voice acting and convenient QoL features. Not a big fan of all the extra yapping they added - often redundant and a bit heavy handed. This is still a favorite of mine, now and forever.

My four favorite PS2 games, in honor of the PS2's 25th anniversary. Honorable mentions include Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Shadow Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts II.

#22 - Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

Was surprised by the charm of this shoe-string budget game. Main characters are flashy and the Digimon look good. The story is cozy anime nonsense but the translation does it no favors. Great gameplay for collecting and grinding. Min-maxing being time-gated sucked.

#21 - Golden Sun: The Lost Age

The sequel brings back everything from the first game except more of it. Plot is a mess. Characters still babble in circles too much. The game gives you very little guidance where to go next. Great graphics, music, gameplay, and puzzles. A GBA classic.

Can't believe Atlus gave us a perfect red headed knightly elf mommy and named her Hulkenberg. Absolute disgrace.

Samwise Gamgee

Sam's player didn't want to play, but other players insisted. Not wanting to stand out, they chose to RP a humble helper. Their RP was scarce, but stunning. When Frodo failed his wisdom saves in Mordor, Sam succeeded on his strength checks, and the whole table hooted and hollered.

Frodo Baggins

His player was really close with the DM, and helped set the whole thing up. Thus got to be the fate-touched character of the campaign. Almost a co-DM, the DM worked closely with Frodo's player on their very atypical, narrative heavy side of the campaign.

Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took

AKA Merry and Pippin. Their players were best friends IRL. They started out treating the game as a big joke, rubbing the DM the wrong way. However, they got really into it as time went on.

Aragorn

He's played by a 15 year vet who takes everything extremely seriously. Swings for the fences with RP, builds the most powerful characters. Super dramatic. The DM gave them many important story beats because of this. A great player, though, has a proclivity for self-important grandstanding.

Gandalf

Gandalf is 100% the DM's epic self-insert NPC. The Deus ex machina is crazy. Always comes at "the turn of the tide." Has all the answers. Has a bunch of speeches prepared. DM got a little carried away, some think.

Boromir

Boromir's player was the friend who wasn't as well known to the rest of the group. Got mad at the DM and claimed he purposefully killed his character as punishment for trying to steal Frodo's epic item. Left the table shortly after. Was awkward.

(I know. Boromir is actually awesome.)

Legolas

His player is primarily a friend of Gimli's player. Doesn't stand out much despite having a power build. He is there to simply roll dice, be sexy, and as cool as possible. Monotonously narrates his actions rather than RPing them out.

Gimli, son of Glóin.

This is your most typical modern D&D player. Makes too many jokes at serious moments. A little murder-hoboish, he loves combat and being a beast at it. He had an epic backstory about hating elves but immediately began romancing them the first chance he got.

This has probably been done to death, but as I was reading through "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," I started pondering the type of players each character would be at a D&D table. I'm going to expand on these thoughts with a thread.

#20 - Metal Gear (MSX)

Idk what an MSX is, but MG plays like a solid 8-bit title: short, controls well, looks good, and has neat foundational ideas. I was surprised how many ideas here actually get re-used in the later games. Stealth wasn't crisp yet. The cheap deaths and card system were annoying.

#19 - Pokemon White

Story attempts to establish a greater sense of narrative to... middling results, imo. The environments use DS technology well. Sprites and music are great. I liked how the Pokemon selection was limited to originals for the story. Forced me to learn. Good level of challenge, too.
