Sadly, a lot of games actually get away with it.
Stellaris, Arc Raiders, The Finals, Anno, etc... And even loads of (shitty, streamer-bait) indie games.
Executives sees that, and want to do the same.
But they are gambling. Which is fine for them as they never suffer consequences.
