She served as Gov. Shapiro’s constituent service agent when he represented the 153rd legislative district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2004 to 2012.

This advocacy showed us that *who* runs government does matter to the wellbeing of people, and informed both her political activism and that of especially me and my brother, Dave, a Major in the US Marine Corps and Congressional staffer.

My sister, who is two years younger than me, was born with intellectual disabilities, and I watched my mom care for her and advocate for her and others like her until the day she couldn't anymore.

Her life of service didn't begin when @governor.pa.gov was first elected to the PA House--she's been giving of herself to others since she was a teen working in a salon, paying her first husband's way through college, and then by trying for 8 years--some of which I imagine felt futile--to have kids.

A fatalist conclusion, maybe, because every time I've thought about that notion, I've thought about my mom, Jean Corrigan, and how through words and actions throughout her life, she taught me and my siblings not just to care about others, but that we are obligated to care about others.
