Albanese's government could have held social media platforms to account for poor moderation. Instead, they're banning children because that's easier (and children can't lobby like corporations can). In doing so, they shut out the next generation of voters who will now distrust the Labor Party.

The justification for the ban is "protect the children", but the Albanese government isn't doing that. When I was a young teen, the internet was an escape from the bullying I suffered at school and the loneliness I experienced living on a farm that was a fifteen minutes' drive from the nearest town.

This ban is already being challenged in the High Court about whether or not it is constitutional. Best of luck to the folks bringing that case forward, but it'll still be months until that case is heard. In the meantime, the ban gets to move forward, which means that everyone's faces get scanned.
