Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Proud to wear the pin in Parliament.

Disabled people bring huge value to our communities, yet too many face barriers.

I’ll keep pushing for:
• accessible public spaces
• fairer support
• inclusive opportunities

I am appalled by some of the amendments-no reason for them to be submitted other than to wreck eg
*anyone who has travelled outside UK would be barred
*every applicant must submit negative pregnancy test (even biological males!)
*no one who is on the organ register would be allowed
Dreadful & cruel

I’ve seen schools using therapy principles to improve SEND learning — like simplified décor at Colehill First School. These changes work. But in Mid Dorset and North Poole, schools get £2,000 less per pupil, making this hard to fund. I’ve asked the Minister what grants can support these upgrades.

It’s World AIDS Day — let’s keep working to end new HIV transmissions.

In 2024, the UK saw 3,043 new diagnoses and 40.8m people are living with HIV worldwide.
Awareness, prevention and treatment save lives.

Great to join Dorset Police, Merley HomeWatch & Cllrs at Merley Comm centre for a bike marking session.
Around 30 people brought their bikes to be protected.
We need to consider how we get upstream either by manufacturers or retailers so bikes can be more easily returned if stolen

Mayoral areas are getting all the investment & with Wessex (inc Dorset & BCP) not included in the priority programme we keep missing out

I pushed the minister on a timeline for Round Two but got no reply. Our residents cannot be allowed to be missed out
Just out of the Budget, here’s my initial reaction

The good:
• Two-child benefit cap scrapped
• Higher minimum wage
• Respite on energy bills
The bad:
• No VAT cut for hospitality
• New tax on EVs
• Family Farm Tax stays
• Nothing for Dorset
The Ugly:
• The government and the opposition's conduct

Today is Ask Her To Stand Day, celebrated each year on 21 November to commemorate the Qualification of Women Act 1918 — the law that first allowed women to stand for election.
We’ve seen real progress since then, with women now making up around 40% of MPs.

Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Huntington’s are all neurodegenerative conditions and their impact is being deeply felt in Mid Dorset and North Poole.

With 27.3% of residents over 65 (compared with 18.9% across England and Wales), our community is disproportionately affected.

Out this morning with Lib Dem colleagues calling for a 17-month cut to 5% VAT to save our pubs and hospitality sector. We’re losing one pub a day and 80,000 jobs since the last Budget. If we don’t act now, we risk losing the businesses that hold our communities together.
We need to act now.

I’m delighted to be joining the Justice Committee, with my first session taking place today.
As an MP, I regularly support constituents who feel the justice system hasn’t treated them fairly or could have served them better. Through this role, I hope to help improve confidence in our justice system.

Met the Sixth Form Leadership Cabinet, did a Q&A with younger students, and heard student concerns about transport, which I’ll continue to campaign on.

We need a 5% VAT cut to save our hospitality sector, revitalise our high streets, and help lower costs for customers.
We’re losing one pub a day.
As a former hospitality business owner, I’ve long campaigned to support this industry, raising the issue with Daisy, Lib Dem Dep Leader, at conference.

More than 80 million calls to HMRC have gone unanswered over the past decade.
This week I challenged the Minister on HMRC’s delays after a constituent in Wimborne waited seven months for a £300 tax refund.
It’s time for faster support for taxpayers.
