I did flip through it in the end, it was surprisingly but delightfully mundane for the most part. I do like a good coffee table book.

"i'm not gunna lie" is not too far behind. Every other sentence out of my teenager's mouth has this prefixed or suffixed to it 😂

The reaction on social media has been tepid, but that might say more about their target market now which is larger agencies rather than indies. We haven't used it for a long time, but at $99/mo kept it around as a "just in case" 😂

I assumed that. Hard to say for sure, but their board of directors makes them smell that way 🦨

The only real problem curators can encounter is people getting upset that you "platformed" someone or mentioned something they don't like. But do news channels decide not to ever acknowledge Trump? Or a war? Or a hate crime? No, it's a part of the job, and telling the news is not a form of support.

This is kinda the opposite to how most people would use social media nowadays where having a "take" is the way to get engagement, but I'd rather do that with less contentious topics instead and not ones that directly affect people's lives.

With sensitive topics I try to think more along the lines of a news reporter, rather than a journalist. Say what happened, stick to the facts, be quite dry. It's not so entertaining to read (or write!) but it's more fair to all the parties involved.

I think a lot of it comes down to being exposed to the BBC every day growing up. People on every side of the political spectrum accuse the BBC of "bias" and that's because the BBC always tries to be for everybody and to represent all viewpoints.

It is hard to stress just how cool the JRuby project is. It Just Works™ and works well with zero stress. A true credit to the Ruby world.

There's some great news about JRuby startup times on JVM 25 to dig into.

Maybe, I'm in the UK. A related problem is when an artist remasters or re-records songs and they get favored over the original because it's newer.
Had this with Alexander O'Neal "Criticize", where it would only play his 30 year anniversary version rather than the original hit 😭

The only workaround I often have is to switch music service. So if Apple Music does it, I tell Spotify to play the song. If Spotify, then Apple Music. Not yet encountered a situation where both get it wrong.

If it were legal, I reckon pubs would do this as well. Getting harder and harder to keep a pub going nowadays since the younger generations aren't into drinking.
