I've brought it up so many times in coaching sessions that Splatoon mirrors older shooters like Quake and Doom so much more than the current wave of team shooters. Primarily because it has those fundamentals compared to the newer shooters who mirror MOBAs with the focus on ability cooldowns.

I tried to get 2 friends into it, one got motion sickness since they weren't used to gyro vs mouse/keyboard. The other called it the hardest shooter they had played since they had no idea what was going on. Both had a decent amount of experience in FPS games.

I always bring up the fact that an actual match will last 30-60 seconds if things are lopsided. While a whole set will take less than an hour. Which in terms of overall FPS matches is kinda insane since in a lot of team based shooters it usually takes a lot more time.

There are so many insane game releases that have occurred within the past 5 years. It feels like we cycled back into the 2000s and it's kinda awesome.

I just don't bother watching anything Nintendo related at this point, seeing these videos pop up so often is just extremely annoying since it's never trying to make a discussion just a grift.

I think a more common reason is similar but it's more of a FOMO in terms of sales. A lot of people like buying in bulk and I think games are similar when they are very cheap. Which backfires since most people really only end up playing a few games consistently.

I tried to enjoy it, but I think I don't think the gameplay hit the same way it did when I played the OG Paper Mario. The story just isn't as good as Super Paper Mario either to me. So it just felt so weird to me where it just never really clicked with me.
