Kirby Triple Deluxe bosses did a lot of that same thing, and it's the main thing that dragged that game down for me too.

Main issue I had with the game was some of the later boss fights. Periods of active dodging where the boss can't be damaged are common enough, but the length of active dodging sessions combined with how missing your chance to hit the boss takes you through another full cycle gets excruciating.
