It is a triage argument. Unless you manage to block GOP with solid enough majority for a prolonged time, you will never get out of the triage. If you get a 2 vote majority for 2 years, you will be stuck forever.

Inaction is a choice as well. And the further the US backslides with Trump, the longer it would take for anyone to even consider the policies that were a problem for such voters. You don't care about possible tumor when the patient is bleeding out.
