Ah lovely little land border there for Guyana and of course, the British Army's facilities for jungle warfare in Belize. I'm sure that the latter will not be of any use to an American occupation force in Venezuela.

Ah lovely. I'm sure also the fact that we also have 4 colonies in the Caribbean won't expose us to any acute economic fallout or indeed, military or political fallout!

Just phenomenal geostrategy at play. Peppered with golden nuggets like Attee wanting to keep the Andaman and Nicobar islands for the Anglo-Indians and Nehru considering allowing it because he thought it funny to reduce the former jailers of India to a penal colony.

Indeed and in fact the British Government refused the Maltese the chance to become a constituent part of the UK in 1956, which set the precedent for independence or continuation as a colony, rather than the French model of incorporation
