My purpose in life is to remind everyone that every ridiculous thing has happened before. That and to have strong opinions about Star Wars. Those two things.
The unifying factor is they're all reasonably grounded versions of a WW3 scenario.

Countdown to Looking Glass is the hardest to find, and By Dawn's Early Light is probably the worst of them. It's easier to find Onset of Darkness under that name.

The watch list in question:
The War Game (1965)
The Day After (1983)
Threads (1984)
Skymningsläge - Sverige under kalla kriget [Onset of Darkness] (2017)
Countdown to Looking Glass (1984)
By Dawn's Early Light (1990)

The fact that the other two don't makes them all the more harrowing. Especially The War Game, which is as unflinching in that regard as a work of fiction can be, in my opinion. It really hammers home that the bald facts of nuclear war, plainly stated, need no embellishment to horrify.

I really like Threads but it is lower on my apocalypse watch-list. Compared to The War Game and The Day After, Threads leans more towards sacrificing accuracy for narrative and to meet pop-culture expectations.

Forgetting the first rule of siege warfare. Any static defense is merely an inconvenience unless it's actively manned.

To put it in a more generic sense, the only ethical divide that holds up across time and cultures is "is this a weapon designed to kill, or a weapon designed to injure or terrorize?"

1-9: Flamethrower.
Tied for 10th: Everything else.

This isn’t a point about the merits of either card or their ban status. This is a point that the commander playerbase at large demonstrably has no idea what it’s talking about in terms of bans and should be ignored.

Species rich clade of vertebrates, I meant.

Even if you could, that crowd would then just become eager little quislings

The Major is objectively correct but it is also so cool.

When I say obscure, they made 40 of those, total.

In related news Princess Principal is full of obscure period correct firearms. One of the writers is my kind of sicko. The Princess has a Schönberger-Laumann for crying out loud.

It’s crazy that I think everything that ever comes out of his mouth is complete bullshit yet his games are practically immaculate. Absolutely infuriating.
